Arts Alive Juried Art Show and Food Trucks has been cancelled for 2023 and hopes to return in 2024. Sorry for the confusion.
Turning Bee Chair Denis Urbanczyk noted that the Turning Bee will be held Saturday, July 22nd at Isha Institute 951 Isha Lane, McMinnville TN. 37311 from 8 AM until we’re finished. Registration is important so that enough bowl blanks can be prepared. Register by contacting co-chair Larry Wendland at Ph. (931) 563-7445 or email: [email protected] . If you register by email please put “TURNING BEE” in the Subject line.
The Tool and Craft Fair will be held Saturday, Oct 28th at St Barnabas Episcopal Church. It slipped one week due to Rich Wetherbee’s carving seminar on 21-22 Oct.
Darren Earle noted that the Club is looking for a black locust tree for a repair at Falls Mill. If you have one, please let us know!
Richard Gulley polled those present for interest in the club visiting a the Military Vehicle Museum on either a Friday or Saturday in Monteagle. The idea was well received. We will plan a trip in the near future.
Shop Tips
- How to make a knee activated safety switch for your table saw using PVC piping.
- When choosing casters for your equipment use 2 swivel casters and 2 fixed casters or all 4 swivel casters. Make sure some/all are locking casters. Don’t overload. The weight limit is the sum of all the casters.
Show & Tell
Gary Bennett presented 2 band saw boxes: 1 single drawer was made with mahogany; the double drawer box was made from cherry. Both were finished with Deft Lacquer. He also used Flocking to finish inside the drawers.
Darren Earle showed a completed a platter carved out of Oak burl, turned by Tom Church and sanded/finished by Susan Church, it was finished with oil.
Dennis Finney showed us his 3-D cutting board. He used four different wood types and a total of 384 pieces and finished with Howard’s Cutting board oil.
Vince Zaccardi brought a platter he made during a John C Campbell Folk School Turning seminar using Ambrosia Maple and finished with 2 coats of homemade oil-lacquer.
Bob Truesdale showed us a small live-edge egg cup he had turned with Ky Coffee wood and finished with Rattle can Satin Lacquer.
Denis Urbanczyk made a bed table with folding legs out of Walnut with brass inlay. He finished it with Danish Oil
