MEETING 10-15-19

Meeting called to order by President Karen Browning at 6:30pm.

Carvers: Jim Jolliffe – Meet 1st and 3rd Saturday at Jim’s shop
Shop Tours – Doyle sent word working on tour and check e-mail and web site for details.
Dues – Paul Jalbert – Dues are due November
Ken Jordan will be reporting on safety issues and merchandise at club meetings.

Carl Blumenthal told about using toothpicks to allow using stripped hole for screw.

Heritage Days – Paul Jalbert reported this year was a 2 day event and was well attended. Club members at the festivities Paul Jalbert, Vince Zaccardi, Chuck Taylor , and Doug Dunlap.

Christmas Dinner – December14th at Decherd Nazareth Church. Pot luck

Chuck Taylor informed that Hoovers Paint now open 10-2 in location of closed Briggs Paint. They are carrying products that club members use. Open house Thursday.

SHOW and TELL:
Vince Zaccardi with the use of pictures showed benches he redid for church. Also had picture of a large carving on display on highway in Bay St. Louis.
Jack Tate brought a beautiful Japanese box bowl mad of pine with cherry base. Finish brush on lacquer.
Loyd Ackerman displayed a walnut bowl that he used CNC to put design on. Finish lacquer.
Vince Zaccardi showed a display plate made of spalted beech and finished with pre cat lacquer. He also had a unique pepper mill.
Jim Jolliffe had a carving of a Choctaw warrior made of beech wood. Finish teak oil, acrylic paint, and 3 coats of spray lacquer.
Chuck Taylor had a small tic tac toe board made for kid’s class. He had to make 30 sets for class. Finish satin lacquer.
Dave VanBruster and Tina Stevens with Franklin County Library talked about “Little Free Library” program to provide books at different locations in the county. Dave brought a sample of the boxes they need to make. Asking for help to make the boxes. If you can help contact Tina Stevens 931-967-3708.

PROGRAM: Gary Runyon – Side Sharpening Plane Blades and Chisels with Sharpton Waterstones
Gary explained side sharpening. Went over different products available and cost. He went through the differences between Japanese and Western tools. Gary explained proper techniques for side sharpening and system to sharpen. He showed different stones and their uses. He answered questions.
