Meeting August 18, 2026
Call to Order
The meeting of the Tennessee Valley Woodworkers was called to order at 6:30 pm by President Jim Joliffe.
Visitors
The Tennessee Valley Woodworkers welcomed several guests to the meeting, including Mona Logan from Estill Springs along with her friends Holly Wisser and Kelly. The club also welcomed new member Chris Harman.
Announcements
Jesse Potter will be demonstrating pen turning this Saturday August 22 at the state fair.
The club picnic will be September 19th following the meeting on September 15th.
The remaining tools from the Henry Davis sale were going to be sold at the auction, but he preferred not to do that. If you would like to purchase any of the remaining items at the original sale price, they are still available.
Paul Jalbert is the lead for Horseplay. They need at least 12 boxes made. The dimensions are flexible, but they would like the boxes to open in a creative way. There will be prizes in the boxes for the children. Please contact Paul if you are interested in helping.
The Coffee County Fair is looking for volunteers from September 10th to September 12th. You are welcome to bring your woodwork to display if you would like. You do not have to demonstrate anything to volunteer.
Next month’s meeting will be the auction for the items remaining from August’s auction.
Show and Tell
- Gary Runyon presented hickory and cherry threaded needle boxes he made. They were finished with Dr. Woodshop. They were sold at the auction.
- Judy Bennett displayed intarsia scrollsaw work of an image of a girl. It was made from cherry, eucalyptus, basswood, ash, and yellow heart with an oak frame. She made it for her first great-grandchild who is expected soon.
- Brenda Zuccaro showed hanging welcome signs she cut on a Hegner bandsaw out of sapele and poplar. She colored them with food coloring and finished them with lacquer. They were sold at the auction.
Following Show and Tell, the club had its auction. 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to the club for the picnic, refreshments, programs, and seminars.
Dick Wollam’s items can be picked up on Saturday August 21st at Jim Jolliffe’s house. Some of the items are still at Dick Wollam’s shop. See Jim to schedule pickup.
The auction was adjourned at 8:30 pm. The items from Susan Murphy’s shop and the remaining items donated from club members will be auctioned at next month’s auction.
