CARVERS CORNER
Here is a
description of Blue Pau's carving seminar that started yesterday
along with two photos.
Mallard Duck Carving Seminar
Blue Pau’s mallard duck carving seminar kicked-off on Saturday
morning, October 7 at the regularly scheduled Carvers Clinic at Jim
Jolliffe’s shop. The goal of the seminar is to carve a half-scale
realistic mallard duck. Each of the seminar participants was
provided a duck rough-out and a pattern. The rough-outs were cut
from basswood that had been donated to the carvers by Stanley Dunn.
Blue provided a completed “demo duck” to illustrate important duck
features. Following the carving process, finishing will include wood
burning the feathers and painting. Each carver will progress at his
own rate and consult with Blue at future Carver Clinic meetings on
the first and third Saturday's of the month until their duck is
complete.

Shop Tip
Struggling to come up with a way to connect
a shop vacuum to the odd-size port on a sander, I spotted a tennis
ball installed as a rail-guide bumper on my bandsaw. Eureka!
Using hole saws the same diameter as the hose and tool ports,
respectively, I drilled through a tennis ball to make a custom-fit
adaptor. It works great!
