When turning a
tenon on the lathe for a wood project and you don't have calipers
what can you use? Try using an open end crescent wrench. They have
the width of the wrench opening marked on them and you pick the size
you need ( works for inches and millimeters); i.e. If you need a 1
1/4 inch tenon grab a 1 1/4 inch crescent wrench.
Always make sure the lathe is turned off and the lathe has
completely stopped.
Machinists may cringe at not using a caliper, but, if you don't have
one or can't find one try using this wrench tip.....it works.
Woodworking Tips
From
Ronnie Young’s Seminar
Taking a piece of #16 sheet metal
cutting it to the shape you want and it takes a natural burr after
you cut it out. Good and inexpensive way to get a set of scrappers.
Always wear your
safety glasses in the shop
