NEXT MAJOR TVW ACTIVITY:
Celebrating 30 years at the Christmas Party
This will be a combination of the annual
Christmas party and a 30th Anniversary commemoration -- The 30th
Anniversary and Christmas celebration will be at Boskey's
restaurant at Willow Brook golf course near Manchester. The cost
will be $15.00 per person for the meal. Reception at 5 PM.
Meal at 6 PM and program to follow.

OUTSTANDING -
Congratulation to
Tom Cowan.
Tom has two pieces of furniture that has been juried into the
East Tennessee Woodworkers Guild 18th Master Woodworkers Show to
be held in Knoxville on the dates of Nov. 6, 7 and 8th . This is
a really great furniture show exhibiting the works of some of
the best furniture makers from the Southeast. Tom hopes to have
some cards to hand out at our next meeting. Ronnie Young will
also be exhibiting.

CARVER'S CORNER
Carver's clinic convened at Jim
Jolliffe's shop October 3 with eight carvers attending. There was no new
business. Progress continues on the soaring eagle project but there were
a few pieces brought for show and tell.
The
carvers are meeting twice a month on the first and third
Saturdays on the month from 8:30 to 10:30.
CHEROKEE WINDS FLUTE CIRCLE NEWS

NAME TAG INFORMATION
If you are a recent new member or had requested
a new name tag, a box of name tags will be available at the next
meeting. In the
future, name tags will be made for new members and available for pickup
at the next regular monthly meeting. Name tags for other
members will be made upon request only and will also be available for

Ross Roepke - He made a
box out of "heavens"
wood, cedar and curly maple. The finish on it was Danish oil. |

Bob Addington - He showed the
Corian
image (by CNC machine) and a reverse side. He also showed a jig
for cutting tapered legs using a table saw. |

Jim Everett - He made an
Intarsia picture of
a "Wounded Warrior" that was signed by country music artists and
was to be auctioned off |

Paul Fulks - He made
light fixture
switch and receptacle wall covers out of poplar wood for his
house. They were finished with water-based polyurethane |

John Hartin -
He made
3 bowls out maple
(crotch and burl), spalted maple (Japanese) and stressed
ambrosia maple, with 3 spoons out of beech. A lacquer finish and
oil finish were applied. |

Loyd Ackerman
- He made a
box
using a
CNC machine that has very detailed work on the top, with insets
on the sides.
View with lid open. Deft lacquer was applied to it. He also showed a
light box to highlight Corian pictures that he made. |

Gary Runyan - He
made
tapestry bobbins out 15 different woods. he used a steel
rod with a collet to hold the pieces. He also made a
cherry box
to hold them. The finish was antique oil.

Darryl Albert - He made
4 knives with
Chittum wood handles and sheaths to hold them, out of root and
burl pieces. The finish was Mahoney’s Walnut oil. |

Jim Van Cleave
- He made a
carved panel
showing a rooster (out of walnut), and a wood duck (from a
former member) with a wood shelf. |

A surefire way to clean aerosol
nozzles
In my shop I frequently use spray cans of paint and finish and I
don’t like wasting the can’s contents or pressure to clear the
nozzle. Instead, I use a can of WD-40, as shown, to easily and
completely clean the nozzle. ---David Buskirk, Ray, Ohio---
