Club dues are payable from November thought February of each year.
Henry asks that when you pay your dues you sign the “dues paid log” which he will have. He asks that you not hand him cash unless you have signed the log.
If you have paid your dues in advance, your name is already on
the “dues paid log”. You can check there if you are not sure if you have
paid.
As a reminder we have a two-tier dues system. Dues for individual
members are $10.00 and for family membership is $15.00. We define
Family’s as your spouse and minor children.
If you don’t remember which membership you have ask Henry or if you
decide to change your membership type please inform him.
Most of our members pay their dues on time and that is greatly
appreciated. Those others are in danger of being purged from the
membership list after the February meeting.
If you should decide not to renew your membership please contact Henry and let him know. That may save you a call, email or letter when it is time to purge the membership list.
For more details on purging the membership list see “Dues and Roster”
in the PRACTICES section on our TVW website.
Any questions or comments you have about club dues, feel free to contact
Henry either at the meetings or email or call him. [email protected]
or 393-3191.

The cavers did not meet in the month of November. Many of our carvers were involved in the North Alabama Woodcarver's Association (NAWA) Show in Huntsville.
Dick Wollam cleaned up again winning several ribbons, two for his heron and stylized/whimsical waterfowl. Sharon Wright also presented many of her carvings.
On October 11, the carvers offered another carving demonstration at the annual Tennessee State Parks Heritage Days celebration at Tims Ford State Park. The theme of this year's community carving project was fishing. Each volunteer carver was given the opportunity to carve a fish that will be added to a large back board that will be presented to the State Park, hopefully before Thanksgiving. About 70 “carvers” participated this year.
The carvers normally meet on the first Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM. Anyone interested in carving is welcome to attend these monthly meetings.
The “Cherokee Winds Flute Circle" met on Saturday morning, October 25th at the Cowan Artist Guild on Main Street in Cowan.
The group will not meet in November or December. The regular meetings will begin again in January, 2015.
Everyone is invited to come and participate or just come to listen.

Vince Zaccardi – brought two bowls that he turned from apple wood and finished with spray lacquer. He also brought two end-grain cutting boards made from maple, walnut and cherry and finished with three coats of mineral oil. |
|
Jim Everett– brought five intarsia plaques with patriotic, Native American, a "pet heaven" and an "embarrassed dog" design. He also brought a variety of Christmas ornaments that he made. |
|
Bob Stancil – brought a platter that he turned from maple crotch that was destined for a friend’s fireplace. He brought a large bowl that had warped after he turned it to final dimensions from green gum. He also brought two interesting pieces of weathered wood that he found in his woods. |
|
Loyd Ackerman – brought a circular 7-generation family tree board that he made using his CNC router. Stick-on numbers correspond to entries on standard genealogy pedigree sheets. |
|
Mickey Knowles – brought two bowls that he turned from apple wood and another from cherry that he rough turned at a recent turning bee. | |
August Dobert – brought and discussed two turned ring boxes that he made. |
|
Fred Heltsley – brought a continuous arm Windsor chair that he made last month in a class with Curtis Buchanan in Jonesborough, TN. He brought a series of pictures to illustrate some of the building steps and explained what is left to finish the chair. Other progress photos may be viewed by going to the web site, selecting the "gallery", the selecting "Show and Tell" then clicking on the 2014_10 folder. He also brought the October/November issue of Woodcraft magazine and the December issue of Fine Wood Working, both of which contain chair-making articles by Buchanan. |
|
John Duval – brought a platter and two bowls that he turned from pieces of a half-ton walnut stump he found floating in Tims Ford Lake. The stump's "imperfections" made for interesting appearances after turning. All three pieces were finished with sanding sealer and polyurethane. |
|
Greg Myers – brought a round Shaker side table that he made during a two-day workshop in Huntsville. He suggested that it might be a good workshop for our club.
|
|
Ken Gould – brought a
bowl that he turned fifteen
years ago along with the rest of the block of unknown burl
that he sawed the blank from. He passed the block along to
Jim Everett for use in his intarsia pieces. |

Parts for small wooden projects can be a real hassle to finish—they tend to flip over, fly away or scoot around when applying a spray finish.
A good solution to solving this annoying problem is fould in the kitchen. Try this -- tack a couple of sheets of Glad Press’n Seal® wrap sticky-side-up on a piece of scrap and lay the small pieces on the sheet. Those little pieces will now stay put during the finishing process. And unlike some tapes, the wrap leaves no sticky residue on them.
