The festivities will begin with a social hour and cash bar at 5 PM. Dinner will be served at 6 PM followed by a program on the history of the Club and then a drawing for door prizes. SEPTEMBER MEETING SHOW
AND TELL:
Bob Reece displayed a couple of perfume pens for the ladies, and showed slides of a very elaborate flower carriage he built for a wedding.
Phil Bishop showed photos of the 9 foot tall display case that he built the curved walnut crown for and commented on a coloration problem when adding an anti-fisheye compound to lacquer.
Henry Davis brought a two-drawer maple case that is used to hold the sanding disks for his lathe work. The case had decorative corners.
Wayne Ison showed a wooden clock from New Zealand that had been carbon dated to be many thousands of years old.
Kevin Deuermeyer brought a walnut table finished with polyurethane.
Vince Zaccardi brought two bowls. One cherry and one apple wood, which was much larger before it flew off the lathe.
Chuck Taylor showed a box elder bowl that had an exceptional lacquer finish.
Stanley Dunn had a Bradford pear bowl that he turned at the Coffee County Fair.
Geoff Roehm brought two musical instruments, one was a dulcimer which he has refinished many times; he also played it for us. He also brought a ukulele which was made from many exotic woods and also played that instrument as well. The instrument backs are shown here.
Bob Addington brought a collection of 13 bowls, some walnut, maple and apple.
Jay Hazel came with 3 maple stave bowls, one of which he gave to Stanley Dunn on behalf of the club for all of Stanley’s contributions to the club. Jay also displayed several aspen leaves he carved a ‘while back’ and a curly maple scarf ring.
Ross Roepke displayed a Spanish maple table made with no mechanical fasteners so it can be disassembled for shipment.
Dick Wollam displayed a very impressive cedar root which was only wire brushed to clean it up but no carving was done.
Felix Rees discussed a walnut lamp with a picture frame as part of the shaft.
Sharron Wright showed a walnut Native American flute with a mahogany frog carved on it which she played for us.

SHOP TIP
--------------- A simple jig for grooving short dowels -------------
Carefully fitted dowels will trap both air and excess glue when inserted. Unless you provide an escape route, that air or adhesive may prevent you from bringing together the joined pieces. For dowels 1-1/2" to 2" long, build a jig out of scrap wood as thick as the dowel length. Near one end, drill a hole the same diameter as the dowel and then crosscut the scrap so two-thirds of the hole remains as shown right. Insert the dowel in the jig and cut a 1/16" saw kerf 1/16" deep with a bandsaw or scrollsaw. One groove lets air and glue escape.
"DO IT YOURSELF" HELP SITE
This is an interesting web site for all you "do-it-yourselfers". The site has nothing to do with woodworking, but can tell you a lot about trouble-shooting and repairing your appliances. The main feature is the "Ask the Repair Guru" section. If you have a repair problem, click here to find the answer to your problem.
LINKS AND CONTACTS -----
NEW LINKS HAVE BEEN ADDED
(TAKE A LOOK)
If you find a place to purchase something pertaining
to woodworking and would like to share that information with others, send
an email to Loyd Ackerman with
the details for inclusion. We're not trying to replace the Yellow
Pages; this is just for those special items and special contacts.
Information needed is: Name,
address, phone #, and website (if they have one) of the business and what
you found them.
MEMBER INFORMATION CHANGES
