"SHOOTING SEASON IS STILL
OPEN"
“Shooting” season is coming to a close. We are still “missing” a few member photos and would like to add to the club’s collection. This is a good way to know the club members. If you have not had your photo taken, we will again be taking photos at the September meeting. We will continue to add “member photos”, as we add new members.
CARVER'S CORNER
The carvers met on September 4th at Phil
Bishop's shop. About twelve eager carvers
were in attendance. Some of the group worked on the new “Totem Pole” while
others continued on their individual projects.
A home has been found for the “Cigar

The carvers will be displaying at the Polly Crockett

AUGUST MEETING SHOW AND
TELL:
Geoff Roehm displayed a “photo clip” of carvings done on the lead contained in pencils.
Henry Davis displayed a wooden dial indicator holder that he uses in his shop “setups”, such as the jointer, table saw or router.
Phil Bishop brought in a “stacked” curved molding he was making for a large corner cabinet.
Loyd Ackerman brought in two hollow vessels. One was made from apple and the other was soft maple.
Vince Zaccardi displayed three bowls he brought in; one was turned from maple, another from apple, and another from cherry. Vince used a wax finish and polished the pieces.
Bob Addington bought in three cutting boards made from maple with walnut accents. The finish Bob applied on the cutting the boards was canola oil.
Doyle McConnell brought in a hollow vessel he dyed from the inside. Doyle also discussed the technique used to make a segmented bowl.
Karen Browning brought in a couple of old boards (believed to be chestnut) she got off of an old barn. Karen planed down the board to show some of the beautiful character of the wood.
Tom Gillard displayed a candelabra he constructed, to be used in his Boy Scout activities.
Ross Roepke built a unique table with a walnut center piece in the top. The sides were mortised to the top.
Ralph Hand created a drop leaf table with walnut insets in the top between pieces of Bradford Pear. The hinges for the top were made from wood as were the supports Ralph designed to hold the folding top in place.
Bob
Leonard brought in an unusual carving he found
at the GoodWill store. He also displayed a wooden
knife case that contains 15 different species of wood.
NEW NAME TAGS
New name tags have been made for every member. If you do not have a new name tag yet, please see Bob Addington.
Hopefully, each member will wear these new tags at our regular meetings.
FOR SALE

SHOP TIP
--------------- Lipstick cures “lock misalignment” -------------
For your drawer lock to work properly, the lock bolt must slide smoothly into the mortise (or hole) you make for it. But, trying to measure and mark that location is driving you crazy.
Extend the lock bolt and put lipstick on the end of
it. Retract the bolt, close the drawer, and then extend the bolt. The lipstick
will mark the correct position for the bolt hole or mortise.
You can mark door locks and cabinet latches using
this same technique.
"DO IT YOURSELF" HELP SITE
This is an interesting web site for all you "do-it-yourselfers". The site has nothing to do with woodworking, but can tell you a lot about trouble-shooting and repairing your appliances. The main feature is the "Ask the Repair Guru" section. If you have a repair problem, click here to find the answer to your problem.
LINKS AND CONTACTS -----
NEW LINKS HAVE BEEN ADDED
(TAKE A LOOK)
If you find a place to purchase something pertaining
to woodworking and would like to share that information with others, send
an email to Loyd Ackerman with
the details for inclusion. We're not trying to replace the Yellow
Pages; this is just for those special items and special contacts.
Information needed is: Name,
address, phone #, and website (if they have one) of the business and what
you found them.
MEMBER INFORMATION CHANGES
We strive to always keep the club membership roster listing up-to-date. If you have address, email or phone number changes, please contact Chuck Taylor (931-728-7086) or Bob Addington (931-723-2554) so that your information can be updated in our membership listings.
