If you have been to a “Turning Bee” before, come and enjoy the fun and fellowship.
TVW
NEWS AND NOTES
TVW PICNIC
Our annual picnic was held on May 22 at Falls Mill. The picnic and auction was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed the “food & fellowship” and the auction.
Thanks goes to the picnic chairman, Felix Rees, who did an outstanding job, again. Also, thanks to Richard Gulley and his helpers for conducting the auction.
The club raised over $800 through the auction items. Thank you for your generosity in bringing the items for the auction.
VACUUM PRESSING WORKSHOP
Loyd Ackerman hosted a “Vacuum Press” workshop on May 15th. The workshop was well attended and everyone got some “hands-on” experience with the vacuum system. Thanks to Loyd for holding the workshop.
JIG & TEMPLATE WORKSHOP
Paul Fulks is putting together a “Jig and Template” information workshop. The target date is June 26. Anyone who has jigs or templates to display and discuss should contact Paul. Additional information will be presented at the next meeting.
"STILL SHOOTING WOODWORKERS"
We are still “missing” a few member photos and would like to add to the club’s collection. This is a good way to get to know the club members. If you have not had your photo taken, we will again be taking photos at the June meeting. We will continue to add “member photos”, as we add new members.
CARVER'S CORNER
The carvers met on June 5th at Phil Bishop's shop. Some of the group continued working on “Building Native American Flutes”. Others worked on individual projects and the new “Totem Pole”.
The carvers will be displaying their talent at the Railroad Museum Arts & Craft Show, on June 12 – 13 at Cowan, TN.

MAY MEETING SHOW AND TELL:
Milner Carden brought pictures of three sugar chests that Ronnie Young built from wood grown on the Hermitage property. The chests were all signed and dated.
Ken Miller showed a Hope Chest he built for a member of his family with a lift out tray. He also had pictures of an entertainment center, an outdoor buffet and a small table and chair set.
Doyle McConnell brought in a segmented bowl, turned from 360 pieces of wood and finished with lacquer.
Ross Roepke built a frame in which he had mounted two wooden planes his grandfather left him.
Bob Addington brought in four bowls which he recently turned from Bradford Pear.
Bob Reese built a cedar chest, with hand-cut dovetails, for a granddaughter in Indiana.
Kevin Deuermeyer built a Sassafras bench for the hallway in his house. The joints were all mortise and tendon and the finish was polyurethane.
Richard Gulley brought and discussed his new Triton router, which works with a crank to lift it above the router table.

SHOP TIP
-----These Corner Brackets Won't Hurt Your Project-----
Ever had that “perfect” project marred or damaged by band clamps? Some band clamps come with four metal corner brackets that can dent your project if you apply too much clamping pressure. For a kinder, gentler corner bracket, try building your own as shown in the drawings below.
Cut the center portion of the brackets out of softwood 2X material with a 2 1/4" hole-saw. Make the top and bottom pieces from 1/8" hardboard or 1/4" plywood. You can customize these blocks by cutting the notches at different angles for projects with more than four sides.
"DO IT YOURSELF" HELP SITE
This is an interesting web site for all you "do-it-yourselfers". The site has nothing to do with woodworking, but can tell you a lot about trouble-shooting and repairing your appliances. The main feature is the "Ask the Repair Guru" section. If you have a repair problem, click here to find the answer to your problem.
LINKS AND CONTACTS -----
NEW LINKS HAVE BEEN ADDED
(TAKE A LOOK)
If you find a place to purchase something pertaining
to woodworking and would like to share that information with others, send
an email to Loyd Ackerman with
the details for inclusion. We're not trying to replace the Yellow
Pages; this is just for those special items and special contacts.
Information needed is: Name,
address, phone #, and website (if they have one) of the business and what
you found them.
MEMBER INFORMATION CHANGES
We strive to always keep the club membership roster listing up-to-date. If you have address, email or phone number changes, please contact Chuck Taylor (931-728-7086) or Bob Addington (931-723-2554) so that your information can be updated in our membership listings. We are making a concentrated effort to keep our membership information current.
