NEW NAME TAGS
New (and larger) name tags were also handed out at the last two meetings. The purpose of these larger name tags is to allow you to read the name tags and learn your new club members.
If you do not have a new name tag yet, please see Bob Addington.
Hopefully, each member will wear these new tags at our regular meetings.
CARVER'S CORNER
The carvers met on April 3rd at Phil Bishop's shop. About 15 eager members attended the program presented by Ron Reimers. Ron’s program was “Building Native American Flutes”. Everyone got to start making their “flute”. The making of flutes will continue at the next carver’s meeting.

MARCH MEETING SHOW AND
TELL:
If you don't remember what the
"Show & Tell items looked like or who showed them -- "click" on the
name or item and take a look.
Matt Brothers brought pictures of a solid cherry sideboard with square pegs in all the mortise and tendon joints. The shelves were adjustable and the drawerswere solid cherry with dovetail construction. The finish was Danish Oil and topcoat of lacquer.
Jay Hazel brought a 12 section stave bowl he made from curly maple purchased from BRC in McMinnville. The finish was walnut oil and a topcoat of a mixture of bee’s wax and mineral oil.
Vince Zaccardi displayed two cutting boards that were made of walnut and cherry and finished with mineral oil. He also brought a beautiful small cherry table that he won at the 2009 Fall Seminar and had assembled and finished.
Bob Addington brought two maple “grooved edge” cutting boards. The top and bottom ends of the boards were accented using cherry with the outside holes elongated. Bob also made a maple bookshelf, which he finished with five coats of wipe-on polyurethane.
Tom Cowan brought and discussed two candle stands he designed in the “Federal” style One table had raised inlay while the other had regular inlay. For these two candle stands Tom created a unique design using contrasting inlays made from sycamore, mahogany and curly maple. The finish was Watco oil and a top-coat of spayed lacquer.
Felix Reese built a walnut table with turned wooden knobs on the drawers. The finish was sanding sealer and polyurethane.
Walter Clement brought in some old wooden engraved type-sets and printings made from the type-set engravings. He discussed how they were made and used.
Paul Jalbert brought in a wood carving, shaped similar to the Ten Commandments stone.
John Mayberry displayed a cherry picture frame. The picture in the frame was of a barn, built around 1914 and still standing, on his Grandfathers farm in Hickman County.
Wayne Ison detailed for the club a story on glue. He discussed his experience in testing glue and the procedure he developed for the testing. Wayne also discussed his experience with the early epoxies.
Ken Burgess brought in bark carvings of houses and trees. He also showed a deep relief carving of a "Lighthouse" scene.
Will Gaetjens made a cherry hot plate. He drilled holes in the plate and inserted spent 22 caliber brass shells in the holes to keep the heated surfaces from directly contacting the wood.
Doyle McConnell discussed the "nested bowl" technique that he will be demonstrating at the Spring Seminar.
Bob Reese brought in a rocking horse like the one he made for his newest granddaughter. He discussed the technique he used to apply Aniline dye, making the cherry appear very old.
Allen Odell displayed two Alaskan style fishing lures he made using alder wood and deer horn.
