CARVER’S CORNER
Plans are being evaluated for a deep relief class by Randy Walters. The class will be at Jim Wright's Shop. It will be for 3 days from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and possibly into the night. It is expected to be a “Friday thru Sunday” event. Additional information will be available as the event is developed.

“TURN FOR THE TROOPS” PROGRAM
The TVW has joined with Woodcraft in the "Turn
for the Troops" program. This is a big morale builder for
the US troops fighting the war on terror around the world. Here's
an opportunity to show your support for the troops and enjoy some woodturning
fun. Pen kits will be available at the May meeting for those signing
up to participate. Thanks to Anthony Watts for
coordinating this effort. You may contact Anthony ( 931-461-1143) for additional
details.
SHOP TOURS
We will soon be into the “Shop Tour” season. Everyone has a good time on the tours. If you are interested in being a “host” on the Shop Tour schedule this year, please contact Doyle McConnell. He is looking for shops to fill this year’s schedule. You can use the shop tour as motivation to clean up your shop.
The Club has reserved a room for a mini-exhibit at the Foothills Crafts fair at the Coffee County Convention Center on November 7 and 8. The purpose of the event is to promote the Club's 2009 Exhibition. More details regarding the Foothills Craft exhibit and the associated rules for entry will be available at the monthly meetings.
SPRING SEMINAR WAS A HUGE
SUCCESS
SNACK TIME VOLUNTEERS
FOR MAY
THOSE IN CHARGE OF SNACKS FOR THE MAY MEETING: Ralph Hand and Bob Addington
SHOW AND TELL:
Dave Whyte brought a calibrated closet shelf jig and another display of his “Sculptured Art” bandsaw boxes, made from Quartersawn oak with Walnut trim.
Doyle McConnell brought and discussed a set of 6 turned nested natural edge bowls made from one piece of Red Maple.
Bob Addington discussed two spalted maple bowls he turned on his new lathe.
Ken Burgess brought a carved house that was 3-dimensional in the “round”.
Bob Reese brought his 24th fiddle creation. The back was maple that he had cut and seasoned for 2 years, and the front was Spruce. A farm theme was drawn on the back (an old house and barn, a plow, and 2 mules, Queen and Andy). Wheat heads decorated the ribs.
Steve Shores brought his first attempt at a realistic face. It was an Indian carved in basswood and finished with linseed oil. He also had a carved basswood plaque with a walnut frame.
Tom Gillard brought in a pet cremation box he had been commissioned to make. It was walnut with maple splines, and had a magnolia lid.
Newt Wright brought in a nice small box that had an oriental look to it.
Collins Roan brought in a nice library table he had made for his reading room.
WOODWORKER'S TIP
Shop vacuum gets glue where it's needed!
Trying to force glue into a tight spot such as a crack on a board or a split in an old furniture part can exasperate even the most patient woodworker. And sometimes the spot that needs the glue is so tight you can't even get a hypodermic needle in there. Place the board so the place you need to glue hangs over the end of your bench. Now, bring over your shop vacuum, turn, it on, and hold the nozzle underneath. Apply glue to the top, letting the suction pull it in. When glue comes out the bottom, clamp the workpiece.

TOOL DEFINITIONS---change
this one
STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER: A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into special non-removable screws.
LINKS AND CONTACTS
We are trying to start a new service for club members. Your VP, Anthony Watts, has requested that we add some key local suppliers to the website to help members find items needed in the shop; for example: belts and pulleys.
To accomplish this, we've changed the table of contents
at the left and top of the home page from LINKS to
LINKS
AND CONTACTS. We will, from time to time, add information
on the Links and Contacts page based on members inputs. If you find
a place to purchase something pertaining to woodworking and would like
to share that information with others, send an email to Loyd
Ackerman with the details for inclusion. We're not trying to
replace the Yellow Pages; this is just for
those special items and special contacts.
Information needed is: Name,
address, phone #, and website (if they have one) of the business and what
you found them.

If you have address, email or phone number changes, please contact Chuck Taylor (931-728-7086) or Jim Steadman (931-962-2940) so that your information can be updated in our membership listings.
