TVW CLUB LIBRARIAN
Our club is now producing a lot of excellent program videos that can be used for learning a variety of different skills.
Due to this fact, the club is looking for a librarian to handle circulation of the Club Videos. If you will be willing to handle this position, please contact Tom Gillard at [email protected] or call 931-455-6651.
There have been requests by Club members for copies of the videos. The Executive Committee feels that they could be a resource for members and is willing to make them available for circulation if we can find a member willing to serve as the central point of control.
The preliminary job description is as follows:
The Tennessee Valley Woodworkers Club (TVW) Librarian is responsible for custody of Videos of Club programs, for issuing them to active Club members on request, for ensuring their timely return, and for reproducing additional copies when necessary. The Librarian shall develop procedures and methods of control for circulation.
The intent of the Library program is to make copies of Club program Videos available to Club members. The Librarian, at his/her discretion, shall make additional copies to satisfy a more timely circulation. Any copy remains the property of the TVW and shall be made available for a Club member’s personal viewing only.
The Librarian shall not be required to make duplicate copies of programs for general distribution.
Requests for circulation outside of the TVW membership shall be referred to the Club President.

SHOW AND TELL:
Jim Van Cleave brought and discussed a collection box he made from scrap poplar some twenty five years ago.
Ross Roepke displayed a stool with a spalted maple seat and walnut legs and a small dark walnut box.
Bob Lowrance brought a caricature of Calamity Jane, which he had started in a carving class.
Jay Hazel discussed a 12-string guitar he made. The guitar had mahogany backing, a coca bola neck and headstock.
Doyle McConnell brought a box elder vase that had been bleached prior to applying the finish.
Loyd Ackerman discussed a turned segmented vase, made up of 640 different pieces.
Doug Dunlap showed a small ash bowl and two turned bowls made of glued up cherry, walnut and oak.
Tom Cowan brought and discussed a “Arts and Craft” style hall table. He copied the design from one of his ancestor’s work and he discussed a little of the ancestor’s influence on his woodworking style.
Bob Addington brought and discussed a white oak bench and some clamping pads to fit his clamps. The pads keep the wood free from markings when clamping.
TOOL DEFINITIONS
HAMMER:Originally
employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining
rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying
to hit. Sometimes used to make gaping holes in walls when hanging pictures.
WOODWORKER'S TIP
"Cornstarch prevents sticky spindle sanding drums"
Spindle sanders save a lot of time in the shop. You lose a lot of that saved time, though, when you have to change the sleeve and it's stuck to the rubber drum. Sprinkle a little cornstarch on the rubber sanding drum before you put on the sleeve. Cornstarch prevents the two from sticking together, so sleeve changes are easy.
