NEXT MAJOR TVW EVENT
The Dogwood Festival is scheduled for April 13-15. Ken will be needing volunteers for the Festival activities, including setup, participation and teardown. If you can help, please see Ken Gould.
The splinter carvers
met at the shop of Steve Shores on
March 3rd. There were 8 members and 2 guests, Scott James and Kelton Garner.
5 carvers brought their mini-totem carvings. A fit
check was made of the individual parts to see what the final
product might look like.
The next carver group meeting will be at Jim Wright’s on March 31. They will start the cigar store Indian at this meeting and will continue the project during the Dogwood Festival. Photos from the last carving session are posted on the club web site in the gallery section under “carver’s events”.
The club is still in need of volunteers to help with
the meeting refreshments. As you are aware, a sign-up sheet is passed around
at the beginning of each year allowing you to sign up to bring “goodies”
for our club breaks. We still have about half of the refreshment slots
open for this year. If two people sign up each month, then it is not a
hardship on anyone. If you are interesting in helping with this activity,
please contact Tom Gillard at the next meeting. You may call Tom at 931-393-0525
or contact him by email at [email protected]
.
THANKS
Thanks to David
Sapp for our February program on Windsor
chairs. David put a lot of information
into a small time slot. His explanation, along with the samples of each
step in making the chair, were interesting and informative.
TVW HISTORIAN
Henry Davis
has been named the official “Historian”
of the Tennessee Valley Woodworkers by the Executive Committee. He asks
for members to continue providing photos, articles, and other memorabilia,
as in the past.

MEMBER NAME TAGS
WANT A TVW NAME TAG? HERE IS THE WAY TO DO IT!!!!!
Our name tags are made by K&S TROPHIES, 510 Country Club Drive, Tullahoma. They were about $5.00 including tax the last time we checked. When in Tullahoma you can go by and have one made, call them at 455-7359 or email them at [email protected]. The tags are 1" x 3" with white letters on a blue background. Just tell the folks that you want a Tennessee Valley Woodworkers name tag. If you are never in Tullahoma, contact Jim Steadman (931-962-2940) or Chuck Taylor (931-728-7086) and they will secure a tag for you.
CLUB BUSINESS CARDS
We are in the process of getting new club business cards printed that will have our new meeting location. For those who have not heard about our cards they are free to members and contain information about the club. The cards are designed so you can sign your name if you choose. If you want a supply of the new cards, see Jim Steadman.
MEMBER INFORMATION CHANGES
We strive to always keep the
club membership roster listing up-to-date. If you have address, email or
phone number changes, please contact Chuck
Taylor (931-728-7086) or Jim Steadman
(931-962-2940) so that your information can be updated in our membership

WOODWORKER'S TIP
"Magnets keep your clamp pads in place....."
Ever had the problem of trying to get parts clamped before the glue begins to set and the clamp pads will not stay???
When using clamps, it's a good idea to sandwich wood spacers between the jaws and project to keep from marring it. But how do you keep the scrap in position while tightening the clamp?
Recess small, round hobby magnets into 2" squares of 1/2" plywood. Drill the recess holes just deep enough so the magnet projects slightly above the face of the block, then epoxy the magnet in place. The magnets hold the blocks on the clamp jaws while you're clamping.
