April Program:

This months program will be on chip carving and John Roth from Huntsville, Alabama will be the presenter.  He started chip carving in 1998.  His chip carving is larger and more elaborate than the norm.    He has taught classes to the PM Chippers of Montgomery, AL  He has been at Dollywood for the past 3 years.  You can see his work in this months issue of Chip and Chat.

Call for Articles:

This club has so many talented woodworkers that it's a shame not to share it on the site. An article can be as simple as a collection of photos of your work put together using a word processor like MS Word or one of the many others. You can insert photos into most of them. We don't need to be artistic writers to get a message across. A photo sequence is all that is needed in most cases. Think about it. The notes for a program you've given or a procedure you use for accomplishing a certain result. Sometimes the results of writing a procedure or simply organizing your thoughts for a project can be of great use or inspiration for others.

If you have ideas for an article and need some consultation on how to put it into something to post on the site contact Loyd Ackerman, Tom Gillard, Richard Gulley, or one of the other computer users for help. One of us could (and be happy to) help you compose it or just to simply give you advice.

The Cumberland Furniture Guild is having their spring meeting Saturday, April 17, 2004 at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville TN.  The Guild is extending an invitation to our club to come and be a part of the meeting for a fee of only $10.00; their normal fee is $30.00 for non-Guild members.

The program will be as follows:
Brian Boggs, an accomplished ladderback chairmaker from Berea, Kentucky, will show slides, demonstrate spoke-shave techniques, answer questions on chair construction, and talk about some steam-bending processes he has been working on recently.
The program will begin about 12:30 and go until about 5:30 PM.

It is our desire that this in no way causes any conflict with the carving workshop that will be in progress that same day. This is such a good opportunity for us that we could not pass up. Since dinner will be available at the center, we need to give the Guild some idea how many will be attending. In order to accomplish this, please let Henry Davis or Tom Cowan know if you plan to go. We will also try to coordinate car pooling as much as possible.  Please let us know as soon as you can, no later than April 10th. Please tell any member you can who may not be on email.

Thanks
