September 15, 1998.  Meeting called to order by President Harold Hewgley.  Welcome guests were James Davenport, Jimmy Burr, Harry Hodge, Milos and Rose Wilson, Kat and Wayne Carter, Buryl  Larson and Dick Binger.

Old business - Falls Mill - Chairman Bob Reese reported a successful outing.  Walter Clement read a note from John and Janie Lovett thanking the participants and attendees. There were 268 visitors.

Fall seminar - It will be held October 17, 1998. Hours are 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Decherd Nazarene church. The $5.00 fee includes lunch.

Picnic - The picnic will be held at Manchester City Park on September 17, 1998. Starts at 5:30 PM with the meal at 6:00 PM.  There will be an auction.

Tom Gillard has agreed to continue as editor of SPLINTERS for another year. There will be an opportunity to make nominations from the floor at the October meeting.  The election of officers will be held at the November meeting.

Craft fair - Billy May reported that a craft fair will be held at Tims Ford State Park October 10th and 11th.  Sponsors are the park and Broadview school. Booth fees are $100.00 inside and $25.00 outside.  There will be music as part of the festivities.

Show and Tell

Dick Binger - an ebonex  segmented vase made in five sections and three segmented plates

Ross Roepke - two clocks, one in mahogany and one in maple and ebonized walnut.

 Jim Van Cleave - feet for a chest that he is building.

 Henry Davis - a bowl out of walnut, a finger joint jig, a finger jointed tool box, a small box and the remains of a bowl turned by Jim Van Cleave at Falls Mill.

Harold Hewgley - a cherry candle holder, a cherry cup, a walnut fluted glass and a honey locust bowl with lacquer finish all turned at Falls Mill.

Doyle McConnell - three candleholders from rubber tree wool.

Milos Wilson - a carved cowgirl and a carved calf out of basswood with painting by his wife Rose.

Crocia Roberson - two groupings of wooden buttons, a total of 61 different designs and a bargain priced wooden belt buckle.

Loyd Ackerman stated that Jack Busby from 3M will do the October program on sanding.

After a short recess Loyd Ackerman introduced Randy Walters a wood Carver from Columbia who presented the program. Randy had a display of beautiful carvings and was both informative and entertaining. The meeting adjourned at 8:54 PM.
