Old Business

Janie promised us cool weather at Falls Mill on the 15th. Our part of the show runs from 9am until 4pm. Please check with Phil Bishop if you need electricity, tables, etc. Janie will feed us again for lunch. Make sure that you arrive early for one of the most funnest days of the year. And everyone make sure to stop by the Belvidere Market on your way back. Don’t stop on the way out - Susan doesn’t serve breakfast yet, I gather.

New Business

On August 5th and 6th there will be a Turning Symposium in Smithville. Our own tremendous turner Tom Cowan will be one of the instructors. The cost of the weekend is $95. Phil announced that the Fall Festival will be in Winchester City Park the second weekend of October. Phil also has plans for the many types of bird houses and nesting boxes that the new Nature Trail needs. Please help them out and use up that scrap lumber before it becomes kindling.

Show and Tell

Manuel Brown returned with his finished chair and has worked out the problems with routing the mortise and tenons. Ben Whiteaker worked out his own plans for a salt box from a picture and built it. Billy May generally knows where his next door neighbor is, so he carved her a lovely kitten playing with, after close inspection, was a walnut turtle. I will not disclose what Susan and I thought it was. Doyle McConnell had a miniature turned birdhouse for a Christmas ornament that might give us all some ideas. Ross had a cherry wall cabinet that he built from some left over wood. I wonder if he’s that good when he looks in the frig for dinner? Jim VanCleave’s grandchildren must really love him. He has now built a trundle bed for overnight guests for one of them.  That’s all the show and tell I got down. If I missed you, chastise me on Saturday.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 18 at Duck River. But don’t forget Falls Mill on Saturday, July 15.
