This
newsletter is from the notes of Susan Church, a much funnier writer than I.
SHOW
AND TELL
Jim
Van Cleave is endeavoring to make a walnut high post bed. He says it may take
him all year to finish, but he hopes to bring the mattress next month. He’s got
the finials - but he’s not finished. And
that’s final. Manuel Brown brought a real woody station wagon that he made for
his PHD baby, and showed some transition pieces for a dust collection system. I
tried to talk him out of the flashing so that I could fix my gutters, but he
made dust tracks for the door before I could really get into begging. Henry
Davis is either building a carved shoe for an eight foot giant, or he is
carving a walnut crescent for an eight foot wardrobe. Did anyone really
understand this? It was a beautiful piece of carving. Ross showed his jig that
he fashioned for a Leichtung box joint fixture. Crocia watched a watchmaker
wind a wooden watch. Say that three times REAL fast. Tom Church had some “best
sellers’ wooden boxes and a dual purpose tool-side grinder\biscuit joiner. The
best news of the evening was that Bob Reese’s finger is going to be fine.
OLD BUSINESS
Final
preparations are being made for the Atlanta trip to Highland Hardware.
. NEW
BUSINESS
Tom
Cowan, Tom Church, and Bob Eubanks will be working on our spring seminar
program. Tom is collecting names of people who would be interested in having
Paul Pitts do a seminar on building a Windsor chair over a period of time. If
there is enough interest, the cost of the seminar and the materials would be
reasonable, and we would have a great chair that we built ourselves.
PROGRAM
Barbara
Church and her father from Church’s stained glass in Winchester demonstrated
the
Tiffany
method of stained glass work. She provided wonderful inspiration for cabinetry
work and
something
much more special than plain glass.
NEXT MONTH’S
PROGRAM
John Sargent will be showing us how to make his beautiful segmented bowls.
