February 1995
SHOW AND TELL
There were some
beautiful pieces for show and tell last month. Jim Van Cleave brought a bed
post he had finished, and told us about the ones he hadn’t - Bob Reese had a carved
village that his sister brought back from South America. He also showed us how
to make honing wheels out of scrap cardboard which he says works very well.
Richard GulIey brought figures that he carved, and Ted Baldwin brought a lovely
nativity set. Judy Davis had a birdhouse she received as a gift for our
inspiration, and also for show were a beautiful Bradford pear rolling pin and a
footstool. Ross brought a martin house made from one sheet of plywood and a
cherry rocking horse. When asked if the horse was made of plywood, Ross replied
that he never worked with plywood- It was for the birds
NEWS
Phil is doing
better and able to do some work. Everyone should visit the Church’s shop in
Belvidere and
see some of the large pieces he has for sale there. They are wonderful. Bob
Reese had a saw
accident and reminded us about easy it is to be careless for so little time
and pay forever.
We hope that he is on the mend.
Judy and Henry
Davis need final word on who is going to Atlanta to the Highland Hardware grand
opening in April. The last chance to sign up will be the February meeting.
PROGRAM
Dr. Eichenberger
spoke to us about eye safety and emergency care. I’m sure that many of us have
had close calls with eye accidents, and the group remained attentive and
well-behaved almost until the end. However, after a while some of the rowdier
elements began discussing the problems that craftsmen have with bi- and
tri-focals limiting their field of vision while working, and several members
demonstrated their unique solutions to these problems.
NEXT MEETING
Because we can’t
be sure that our usual Duck River location will be available, our February
21st meeting
will be held at the Decherd Church of Christ at 7pm. We all know that Tom
Cowan will again
have a great program for us.
Lucinda and
Geoff.
