TENNESSEE VALLEY WOOD WC)RKERS

              SPLINTERS                                                                AUGUST. 1994

We’re beginning to wonder if all us woodworkers shouldn’t start putting our skills to the call and start building an ark  It sure seems like we are well on our way to “forty days and forty nights. Quite a pleasant summer, all things considered, cool Days, lush fields  ands gardens... a pretty good deal indeed. Mother Nature always keeps it interesting.

Here are a couple of quick ones:

*Headlines in the Washington Times – Lead-lined coffins termed health risk.  What about that Bob Reese.

*From the Governor’s office -“ Whaddaya mean I haven’t done anything for the homeless? How about all of those overpasses?

AUGUST AGENDA

•The third Tuesday is upon us relatively early this month... next week as a matter of fact August 16. Lucinda and Richard Gulley have located a video on making pianos from scratch. This follows a German manufacturer from selecting and cutting the tree to the finishing touches. Of course,  we’ll have our usual, unusual Show and Tell!  We’ll also be discussing details of our September picnic., including the heavily contested shavings contest (see details on next sheet). Gee I don’t think Susan has ever seen me without a beard, maybe I should think twice about this shaving contest thing.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAM

The September program will be a “shocker”. I’m planning on presenting a program on electric motors... junk yard motors, interpreting the nameplates, wiring them up, reversing them, making a single phase to three phase converter out of junk yard stuff and maybe how to build your own cheap and dirty electronic speed control. Let me know if any of you inquiring minds out there arc interested in helping presenting a special motor type topic or have any suggestions. We’ll try to wire up, plug in and make it electrifying..
