TENNESSEE VALLEY WOOD WORKERS
SPLINTERS January 1994
BEST WISHES TO
ALL IN THIS NEWEST YEAR!!
.Every day will be a
new one with the same opportunities to make the best of just about any day. Making the best of every day sometimes seems a little
too optimistic. Every now and then I think that there are certain days that
just may not have our particular number on them -- days that might be better
spent in bed, where one might do as little damage as possible. Then again,
maybe staying in bed should be considered making the best of it”. Sounds like the ‘Winter Ain’t No
Good” blues to me. Time for a little levity:

Spelling tip from one of our “Splinter”
readers -- First rule of spelling iz that there is only one “Z” in is..
.“thankz”.
Chauvinist - Do you know why God made man
first?.. .cause he didn’t want any advice.
December 18 brought
another fine Christmas gathering of the Tennessee Valley Woodworkers. We had a
respectable crowd of over 60 people eating food for 120...it’s a woodworker’s
tradition... “waste not, want not” or waist not, worry not”. Over 120 toys were
gathered for Toys for Tots. THANK YOU to all
of you toy makers and to Lucinda and Crocia for taking care of the
distribution. A special THANK YOU to John
Sargent, Lucinda Howard and Richard Gulley for providing us with joyous music
to help us all celebrate Christmas.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR A NEW YEAR
We will have a new slate
of 1994 officers for approval by our distinguished membership. We understand
that Lucinda Howard has graciously consented to act as our V.P. (program
coordinator). Our programs are always a very important element of our
organization. Please give some thought about programs for 1994, write down a
few ideas and pass them on to Lucinda.
Some of our best programs
have come from our own members...participate... volunteer to be
part of a program or help setup a program. It’s a good way to learn more about
your hobby and your club.
Another consideration for 1994...DUES.
Judy Davis will stand ready to accept your membership dues for 1994. Checks,
money orders, stamps or unmarked bills of mixed denominations are all
acceptable... sorry foreign currency must be discounted at market value. Prompt
payment of dues helps us get our mailing list straightened out with a minimum
of change (trouble)...we know you’d hate to miss even one of these invaluable
newsletters.
Our January meeting will be on the usual
third Tuesday . . JANUARY 18 .7:OOP.M.
at the Duck River Bldg. in Decherd. Our program will be a GIANT SHOW & TELL... .It’s been a while since we’ve had just a
show and tell.. .bring a Christmas project, Christmas present, Christmas Past,
Old Project, Old tool, Old friend, New friend, Old neighbor, New neighbor or
just anything to show or tell. Strange how new tools become old friends or ..!
A very special Happy New Year to our
outgoing President, Bill Chew. We missed you at the Christmas Gathering. Bill
worked very hard this past year to keep us going, so we hope 1994 finds you
improving and back with us real soon.
Kenny Smith, you all remember Kenny from
the Gallagher Guitar program, has left Gallagher and started his own instrument
shop. Kenny is doing repair work at his shop in Tullahoma. He is looking for a
combinati6n disk/belt sander. So if you have one for sale give Kenny Smith a
call. We need to have him stand up at the next meeting and tell us a little
more about his business, because, as we all know, word of mouth is the best
advertising around.
IN MEMORY OF GENE LANE
In late October, Eugene Lane died after a
brief illness. After Gene and Aileen first visited our club, they became loyal
and fun-loving members. They attended almost every meeting since they joined.
Gene always enjoyed the meeting and never wanted to miss. He always had a love
for woodworking from cutting up stove wood to making sawdust. We were all glad
to see Aileen at the Christmas Party and hope she continues to be a member of
our “family”.
