TENNESSEE VALLEY WOODWORKERS                         AUGUST 1992

SPLINTERS

 MARK TWIN ONCE SAID “ THUNDER IS GOOD, THUNDER IS IMPRESSIVE;

BUT IT IS LIGHTNING THAT DOES THE WORK.  SO IT’S SUNDAY

AFTERNOON AND RUMBLING LIKE CRAZY, BUT LIGHTNING IS TYPING AWAY.

IT’S GOING TO BE A BRIEF NEWSLETTER FOLKS, I’VE GOT LOTS OF

ORDERS AND TOM IS OFF TO MOTOWN TOWN THIS WEEK. LAST AUGUST, JIM VAN

CLEAVE WAS A REAL SWEETHEART AND TOOK OVER THE NEWSLETTER. IF MY

BELLY HAD NOT BEEN SO FULL AFTER THE PICNIC, I’M SURE I COULD

HAVE HAD ANOTHER VOLUNTEER THIS YEAR. OR WE COULD WORK ON SOME

KIND OF NATIONAL PROCLAMATION THAT AUGUST WAS NATIONAL NO

NEWSLETTER MONTH. BUT I DIGRESS.

JULY ACTIVITIES

WE HAD A WONDERFUL DAY AT FALLS MILL AND A FANTASTIC PICNIC.

JOHN AND JANIE LOVETT ARE GREAT HOSTING TEAM AND YOU WILL

PROBABLY ENJOY THE ONLY OFFICIAL DOCUMENT THAT’S INVOLVED IN THIS

NEWSLETTER AT THE END OF THIS EPISTLE.

OUR MEETING HAD A GOOD GROUP CONSIDERING WE HAD JUST ENJOYED THE

PLEASURE OF OUR COMPANY THREE DAYS BEFORE. JUDY DAVIS DID DOUBLE

COOKING DUTY LAST MONTH AND BROUGHT GOODIES TO THE MEETING FOR

EVERYONE’S PLEASURE.

WE HAD A FINE TURNOUT FOR OUR SALE AND DEALS WERE STRUCK. I

DON’T KNOW ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE, BUT I LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON.

IF I EVER HAVE SOME SWAMPLAND I WANT TO GET RID OF, I’M GOING TO

TURN IT OVER TO BOB REESE TO GET RID OF. BOB, WHO DID END UP

WITH THAT ANVIL, ANYWAY ?

SINCE SOME OF YOU WERE NOT THERE, YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN THE

FACT THAT THE WHITES HAD LOTS OF LITTLE PICTURE FRAMING HOOKS,

LITTLE BRASS LATCHES, AND PLANT HANGERS, AND ASSORTED GOODIES FOR

A VERY, VERY GOOD PRICE. THEY MIGHT JUST WANT TO BRING THOSE

AGAIN SOME TIME.

AUGUST MEETING

WE WILL BE MEETING AT THE FRANKLIN COUNTY ADULT ACTIVITY CENTER

AT OUR REGULAR TIME, 7:00 PM. ON TUESDAY, AUGUST, 18. FOR THOSE

OF YOU WHO DON’T KNOW WHERE OR WHAT THIS IS, LET ME EXPLAIN. THE

WHERE IS ON THE GROUNDS OF THE SITE OF HUNDRED OAKS CASTLE RIGHT

OUTSIDE OF WINCHESTER ON HIGHWAY 64.

GO THRU THE SQUARE, AND CONTINUE ON PAST SKIPS, THE ONLY FOUR

STAR RESTAURANT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, AND WHEN YOU PASS DISCOUNT

SHOES TURN IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR RIGHT. GO TO THE METAL BUILDINGS

THAT ARE DOWN PAST THE CASTLE.

MIKE ROBERTS, RUNS THE PROGRAM OUT THERE AND HE CAME TO US

LOOKING FOR SOME TECHNICAL ADVICE FOR THE PROGRAM THEY ARE

RUNNING. AFTER THE CASTLE AND RESTAURANT BURNED, THEY STARTED A

NEW IDEA OF REFINISHING FURNITURE FOR THEIR STUDENTS. THEY NEED

VOLUNTEERS, BUT THEY ALSO NEED HELP. THEY’RE HAVING SOME LITTLE

PROBLEMS, LIKE GETTING CHAIRS TO STAY GLUED, AND OTHER

REFINISHING TECHNIQUES.

FOLKS, THIS IS A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO BE OF SOME REAL HELP IN

OUR AREA. LET’S NOT WASTE IT. I HOPE WE HAVE THE BIGGEST CROWD

EVER. IT SHOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE SOME OF THEIR EQUIPMENT.

THEY GOT A GOOD INSURANCE SETTLEMENT AND ARE TRULY TRYING TO HELP

THESE ADULTS BECOME ACTIVE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY. IF YOU HAVE

ANY QUESTIONS GIVE ME A CALL. IF YOU HAVE ANY BOOKS, OR MAGAZINE

ARTICLES THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO DONATE TO THE INSTRUCTORS THERE,

BRING THEM WITH YOU.
