SPLINTERS

ONCE AGAIN WE RETURN TO “OCTOBER’S BRIGHT BLUE WEATHER”. A GREAT

SEASON... .FALL .. .THE CRISPNESS TEND TO GET ONES BLOOD MOVING

AFTER THE SLOW AND SULTRY SUMMER SEASON. I JUST RAN ACROSS A FEW

WORD OF WIT AND WISDOM... TO SHARE WITH ALL OF YOU WISE AND WITTY

WOODWORKERS... SO HERE WE GO:

MARRIAGE AT FIRST KISS WHEN I TELL MY KIDS THAT I MARRIED THE FIRST MAN I KISSED, THEY JUST ABOUT THROW UP. BARBARA BUSH

THE POOR WISH TO BE RICH, THE RICH WISH TO BE HAPPY, THE SINGLE WISH TO BE MARRIED, AND THE MARRIED WISH TO BE DEAD. ANN LANDERS

KIDS IFABRAHAM’S SON HAD BEEN A TEENAGER, IT WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN A SACRIFICE.   SCOTT SPEND LOVE (THIS CAN’T BE A REAL NAME)

MOTIVATION HENRY FORD OFTEN SAID THAT WHEN HE HAD A TIME

CONSUMING AND UNPLEASANT TASK TO DO HE WOULD ASSIGN THE “LAZIEST

MAN I COULD FIND” TO DO THE JOB. HE OBSERVED, “WITHIN A DAY OR

TWO, HE WILL COME UP WITH A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO DO IT.”

SEPTEMBER MEETING

SORRY THAT WE MISSED THE SEPTEMBER MEETING. WE WERE BUSY TOURING

THE WONDERFUL WILD WEST——THE GRAND CANYON, MONUMENT VALLEY, TAOS,

NEW MEXICO, AND OTHER MAGNIFICENT SIGHTS OF THE WEST. WE’VE HAD

SEVERAL EXCELLENT REPORTS FROM THOSE OF YOU FORTUNATE SOULS THAT

ATTENDED THE MEETING. CALVIN SHARPE DISCUSSED LOCAL TIMBERSPECIES

AND DEMONSTRATED CARVING SOME VERY NICE FLUTED BOWLS. NOT BEING TRUE BLUE” MIDDLE TENNESSEE NATIVES, WE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE ENJOYED HEARING OF SOME OF THE UNCOMMON SPECIES UNIQUE TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE.

OCTOBER MEETING

THE THIRDTUESDAY FALLS EARLY THIS MONTH SO MARK THAT CALENDAR FOR

OCTOBER 15, TUESDAY 7:00 PM

SAME OLD PLACE, DUCK RIVER ELECTRIC BUILDING IN DECHERD.

FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, FELLOW COUNTRYMEN, AND SPOUSES ARE ALWAYS

WELCOME. WE’LL HAVE OUR EVER POPULAR SHOWAND TELL SO DON’T FORGET

TO BRING A SHOW OR A TELL OR BOTH. IT’S TIME TO GET BACK INTO

WOODWORKING AND MAKING SCRAPS FOR THAT OLD WOOD STOVE.

TOM COWAN, OUR ABLE AND HONORABLE PROGRAM PERSON, HAS SET UP

ANOTHER MONTHLY MEETING THAT PROMISES TO CAPTURE US ALL. TOM HAS

ARRANGED FOR “GUM”JOHNSON, OWNER AND OPERATOR OFJOHNSON HARDWOODS

OF HUNTLAND TO PRESENT OUR OCTOBER PROGRAM. GUM WILL BE DISCUSSING

WOOD TECHNOLOGY AND THE PROCESSING OF HARDWOODS. I’M SURE WE WILL

HAVE AN EXCELLENT QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION AS WELL.

TOYS FOR TOTS OR 80 SHOPPING DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS

HENRY DAVIS HAS GRACIOUSLY OFFERED TO HEAD UP A COMMITTEE TO

ORGANIZE, DIRECT, INSPIRE AND OTHERWISE HELP US WITH OUR TOYS FOR

TOTS PROGRAM THIS YEAR. OUR ANNUAL PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROGRAM

SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN A DOWN—TURN IN RECENT YEARS. HENRY HAS

ENLISTED SOME EXCELLENT HELP FOR OUR COMMITTEE——CROCIA ROBERSON,

AND BOB EUBANKS. GIVE THIS SOME THOUGHT AND LET THE TEAM HEAR YOUR

IDEAS. WITH AN EARLY START THIS YEAR, MAYBE WE CAN AVOID THE LAST

MINUTE HOLIDAY RUSH, WHICH CAN SOMETIMES MAKE THOSE REWARDING

PROJECTS SEEM TOO MUCH LIKE A CHORE.

TOOLS FOR SALE

—TOM COWAN HAS A LIST OF TOOLS THAT AN INDIVIDUAL HAS FOR SALE.

—RICHARD GULLEY HAS THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF “THE TOOL COLLECTOR” FROM OLD TIMEY DAY TWO YEARS AGO, HE’S MOVED BACK TO WINCHESTER.

MEMBER UPDATE

SOME OF YOU PROBABLY KNOW THAT BILL WARMBROD IS IN METHODIST

HOSPITAL RECUPERATING FROM EMERGENCY SURGERY. BILL HAD A TRACTOR

ACCIDENT AND IS IN INTENSIVE CARE  AS WE GO TO PRINT. I’M SURE HE

CAN’T HAVE VISITORS,  BUT HE’LL KNOW THAT OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH HIM.

WE’LL TRY TO KEEP YOU UPDATED ON  BILL’S RECOVERY. TAKE IT EASY AND

DO WHAT YOUR DOCTOR AND RUTH SAY  BILL.

OLD TIMEY DAY
