Here it is APRIL already. I think of April as a kind of a “waiting” month. It always seems as though one spends much of april waiting: waiting for the rain to stop, waiting for the weather to warm, waiting for the garden to dry or even waiting for the Easter Bunny to arrive. Come to think of it. April may not be the only “waiting” month. There are several other months of “waiting”: waiting for inspiration (any month), waiting for money (any month), waiting for cool weather (summer months). waiting for help (any month), waiting for the glue to dry (any month). One last thread of truth regarding April waiting “time and taxes waits for no man”.
NEWS
I’m afraid that the phrase “no news is good news” doesn’t apply to these moments when we’re attempting to print our newsletter. We understand that some of our members visited the woodworking show in Atlanta. We’d all appreciate a little update at the next meeting.
For those serious turners in the crowd we’ve got news of a big time turning symposium May 3rd thru the 5th. You’ll have to make a little extra time to allow for the trip to Provo Utah. Lectures, slide presentations, demonstrations and even a swap meet are included. We’ve got the information if you’ve got the time.

This item really doesn’t qualify as news but ... it just seems to fit. I’ve been looking for a Mapp gas torch for silver soldering band saw blades. If any one of you fellow Tennessee Valley woodworkers has a recommendation of a source I’d sure appreciate hearing the details. I’ve also forgotten the ideal % silver content of the solder.
Speaking of HELP... here’s a helpful hint I read a while back. Maybe one of you innovative souls have tried it or have another solution. Pitch or gum can degrade the performance of any sawblade. Dri-cote lubricant is supposed to be a good way to guard against pitch buildup and subsequent blade heating and dulling. Highland hardware has this product available for $9.95 for a 10 oz. bottle. Several remedies for pitch removal come to mind ... baking soda and a little water works wonders... I’ve heard that a little oven cleaner also works well.

Bob Reese has rescheduled THE RYOBI ROUTER REPRESENTATIVE for our April meeting. Circumstances beyond his control forced him to miss our last meeting. Please come prepared to learn everything you ever wanted to know about routers, but were afraid to ask. This promises to be another fine program. If you have any router projects, problems, jigs our tricks of your own .... .PLEASE bring them to the meeting for show and tell. In any case don’t forget show and tell. Bring a guest.. ..we always like to share our hobby and our fine club with others!!!

Always a puzzling question Right. Tonto. His real identity is known to few. We were introduced to him as Steve Merit, THE PUZZLE MAN?????
