TENNESSEE VALLEY WOODWORKERS            JAN 90

SPLINTERS

HERE WE ARE, JANUARY 1990...A NEW YEAR AND A NEW DECADE. I

UNDERSTAND THAT THERE MAY SOME DISPUTE AS TO WHETHER 1990

REALLY MARKS THE END OF THE 80’s OR THE BEGINNING OF THE 90’s.

RATHER THAN DWELL ON THIS RATHER ACADEMIC ISSUE, WE’LL TAKE

ADVANTAGE OF OUR EDITORIAL LICENSE AND CALL IT A NEW DECADE!!!

MOST OF US OLD WOODWORKERS HAVE PROBABLY LONG SINCE OUTGROWN

ANY NEED FOR THOSE POINTLESS NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS THAT WE CAN’T

ENDURE. PERHAPS WE MIGHT CONSIDER JUST A FEW NEW DECADE

RESOLUTIONS:

*          CLEAN THE SHOP...REMEMBER THAT CLEANLINESS IS ONLY IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER OR “A WOMAN’S TRASH IS A MAN’S TREASURE.

*          START A LONG TERM PROJECT... .REMEMBER THAT A LONG TERM

PROJECT IS ONE THAT SHOULD EXTEND WELL INTO THE NEXT

DECADE..FOR EXAMPLE, SUSAN’S NEW KITCHEN CABINETS WOULD

BE CONSIDERED “A LONG TERM PROJECT”.

*          START PLANNING THE COMPLETION OF THE LONG TERM PROJECT

THAT YOU STARTED DURING THE LAST TWO DECADES...THE SECRET

IS ALWAYS IN THE PLANNING...”INDECISION IS THE KEY TO

FLEXIBILITY.

*          MAKE A PRACTICAL LONG TERM INVESTMENT.. .REMEMBER THAT

ONE OF THE MOST PRACTICAL AND LONG TERM INVESTMENTS ARE

TOOLS...THIS FACT IS SUBSTAN~IATED BY A MAJORITY OF THE

WOODWORKING FINANCIAL CONSULTANTS THAT I HAVE CONSULTED.

*          PAY YOUR TENNESSEE VALLEY WOQDWORKERS DUES IMMEDIATELY...

REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT RESOLUTION! I!!

*          BRING A FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR TO TENNESSEE VALLEY WOODWORKERS OUR NEXT MEETING IS NEXT TUESDAY JANUARY 16  7:00 P.M. AT THE DUCK RIVER ELECTRIC BLDG. IN BEAUTIFUL DECHERD

NEXT MEETING

SPEAKING OF THE NEXT MEETING. BOB REESE, OUR NEWLY ELECTED VICE

PRESIDENT AND HONORABLE PROGRAM CHAIRMAN, HAS ARRANGED FOR AN

EXCELLENT PROGRAM TO START THE NEW DECADE. THE PROGRAM TOPIC THIS

MONTH WILL ADORESS A DEEPLY NYSTERIOUS SUB-JECT. THIS PROGRAM IS

AIMED AT KEEPING YOU SHARP. BOB HAS FOUR OR FIVE MEMBERS SET TO

DEMONSTRATE VARIOUS TECHNIQUES FOR HAND SHARPENING WITH STONES. I

IMAGINE THAT WE’LL SEE WATER STONES AS WELL AS THE TRADITIONAL

OIL STONES. BE THERE OR BE DULL! !

WHILE WE’RE ON THE SUBJECT OF MONTHLY PROGRAMS, LET’S NOT NOT

FORGET OUR FAVORITE PART OF THE PROGRAM...SHOW AND TELL....

MAYBE SOME OF OUR MORE FORTUNATE MEMBERS WILL BRING IN A

CHRISTMAS GIFT...A TOOL OR PROJECT.

BOB IS PLANNING ON DISTRIBUTING A QUESTIONAIRE AT OUR NEXT    4

MEETING. HE’S LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS FROM THE MEMBERSHIP FOR

MEETING PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES. TOPICS WE’VE DISCUSSED INCLUDE

WOODS, HAND TOOLS LIVE DEMONSTRATIONS, POWER TOOLS FIELD TRIPS,

EXCHANGES OF SHOP VISITS AND SEMINARS. PLEASE BE PREPARED TO

CONTRIBUTE YOUR THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS. WE’RE ALWAYS LOOKING

FOR ANYONE WILLING TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH US...EVEN FOR A

PORTION OF A PROGRAM. BOB ALSO MENTIONED THE POSSIBILITY OF A

LIVE SCROLL SAW DEMONSTRATION. HELP US OUT! !!!
