February 28th 2012 Executive Committee Meeting

 

The Executive Committee Meeting was opened at 7:00 PM by club President Vince Zaccardi.  Those in attendance are as followed:

Treasurer’s Report for FY 2011 was presented by Bob Addington in the form of a spreadsheet listing:

            Beginning Balance of- $3423.75   

            Funds Collected were-$4388.00

            Total Expenses were-$3,318.24

            Ending Balance was-$4493.51

 

Library Budget- $300.00 budget was set and approved by the committee

Program Budget-$300 budget was established and approved.

Website – Comments - Who updates it, do we need to spread the load?  It was determined by the committee members that maintaining the website would be continued by the members who are currently maintaining it no additional help was needed at this time.

Forum – Comments – as above- It was decided that no changes be made at this time other than to get additional club members to use the Forum.

 

Events/Happenings

            Meetings/Programs- it was determined that the meeting time and place would not be changed.

Paul Fulks is the Program Committee Head additional member of this committee are:

            Tom Cowan, Doyle McConnell,  Loyd Ackerman

It was determined that additional members were needed for the Program Committee to help out with planning and creating additional new ideas for future programs.

Possible programs Bob Wissman, Tom Church, Dwain Adams, Kelton Garner, Woodcraft (other ideas?)- other ideas presented where:

Carving program-learn how to draw and types of wood used for carving.

Tool sharpening program-demonstrate proper sharpening techniques, how to build a sharpening center.

Gunstock refinishing program

            Workshops

Two completed  Others?  Inlay March10th, Spindle Turning etc, etc.- A spindle turning workshop was discussed at Tom Cowan’s shop.  No date was set.

            Seminars

                        Paul’s Shop  April??  Vince Zaccardi is going to call Paul Fulks to confirm the spring seminar at his shop in April.  Tom Cowan made his shop available in Cowan if Paul Fulk’s shop was not available.  A date and program theme would be decided at that time.  Chuck Taylor stated that he needed this information in order to publish it in the newsletter prior to the event happening.

     One or Two this year Subjects ?  It was discussed by the committee members as to how many seminars should the club have this year.  Tom Cowan volunteered to speak with Scott Tinker of Chattanooga in having a Finishing program conducted by him.  The committee members were all in agreement for Tom Cowan to make this contact.  Tom Cowan would make his shop available in Cowan, TN to hold this program.  Once contact was established and details in place Tom Cowan would inform Vince Zaccardi.

            Picnic

                        Any Changes- the picnic location as of this time will be held at Falls Mill on May 26, 2012.             Need MC- a new MC is needed as well as additional volunteers.

 

            Christmas Party                      Dec 7th

 

            Turning Bee    How do we pare it down?- Tom Cowan stated that a chairperson was needed for the Turning-Bee.  This was a very time consume and labor intensive program.  It was discussed that a committee needed to be established with additional volunteers to share the workload and to coordinate the setup of tents and equipment.  It was also discussed as to what parts of the program could be streamlined or eliminated completely such as demonstrating how turning blocks were cut out.  This program could be in discontinued in the future if additional help or locations are not available.

 

            Coffee County Fair  How do we pare it down?- the Fair is still an unknown factor at this time due to the turmoil that it is in with Coffee County.  It has not been established if the Fair will even take place at this time.

 

            Panoply                                              How much support do we have?

Carver’s Activities

            Do they need/want anything from the club?- Dick Wollam discussed the carvers activities and he stated that nothing was needed from the club at this time.

 

 

Other Topics for Discussion

            Memorial for Ralph- it was agreed on by the committee that $50.00 would be sent to Ralph Hands family to be used as needed.  It was also agreed that in the event of future deaths that the Treasure would automatically send $50.00 to the place of the families wishes without the committee’s approval.

Exhibition in spring of 2013, Is there enough support?- there is not enough information at this time to determine what or how much support there is for this.

 

            Comments on membership survey.- Loyd Ackerman is going to poll the membership through the Forum for  input into the Club’s program planning committee for types of programs that the members would like to have.

            Should we be doing anything different as far as club operations?- at this time there were no changes made in the club’s operations.
