MINUTES MEETING April 17, 2018
Meeting called to order by President Karen Browning at 6:30pm.
Karen gave
brief lesson on Dogwood tree and challenged members to make something with
dogwood.
Visitor – Alice Jenson
Paul Jalbert gave treasurer's
report. 68% of members paid for 2018.
Carvers meet 1st and 3rd Saturday
at Jim Jolliffe's shop.
Shop tour April 21st of Tom Gillard and Jack
Kincella's shops. Meet at Hardee's 8:30am Tullahoma.
Karen was contacted
by Lorie Petty activities co-coordinator Brookdale Assisted Living. Asking if
few members would bring pieces to show residents in early June.

Sale – May 19th at Decherd Church of Nazarene. Vendor setup Friday 6:30pm Open

Richard Stark is selling dad's tools. Richard Gulley said they not prepared at
this time.
Vince Zaccardi said Arts Alive in Tullahoma looking for vendors.
$75.00 for space no commission.
Larry Wendland gave update of his injury.
Ross Roepke is to be featured in Highland Magazine.
SHOW AND TELL:
Doug Dunlap brought 2 walnut bowls. 1 bowl had cracked. The 2nd was finished
with lacquer.
Doyle McConnell displayed a pepper mill made with 4 pcs of
plywood and walnut. He showed the glue from the plywood was green.
Roland
Bussler showed a group of bottle stoppers made from varies scraps. He showed how
he used snap jewelry to decorate the tops.
Ross Roepke brought a stool made
of cherry and finished with Danish oil. He also had a cross for church made of
plastic which he said was a fun project.
Levon Jones had a folding child's
rocker to use as a pattern. Finish Val spar sealer and painted white.
Bob
Brown with the use of pictures showed furniture he made. 2 walnut tables, 2 desk
of cherry, 1 white oak bookcase, and 1 communion table.
Richard Gulley showed
a child's rocker made from a pattern from a previous show and tell. He also had
a CNC sign “Sometimes My Train of Though Leaves the Station without me”.
Mickey Knowles displayed a bowl made from box elder finished with sanding sealer
and lacquer.
Bob Leonard brought knives and sheaths he made using sycamore.
He explained how he tries to get color on items.
Felix Reese showed a small
wheelbarrow he made for his grandson. Made of Red Oak finished with marine spar
varnish.

Bronze
Sculptures - Jeanie Stephenson
Susan told how she got started making
boxes. She explained procedures for making a box, choosing wood, preparing
stock, Marking and cutting. Finishes wit 2 coats of tung oil.
Jeanie
explained the process of making bronze sculptures. Told how she makes molds,
heats and pours.
The process takes a minimum of 1 week.
Both displayed
their works and how they work on getting what the finish product looks like.
