Fulk called meeting to order 6:30pm.
David White's widow donated books
and items for club members.
Guest: Roger Bennett, Tom and Valerie Pruitt.
Carvers meet 1st and 3rd Sat 8:30am-10:30am at Jim Jolliffe shop.
Carvers
will host 2 seminars:
(1) WOOD CARVING WITH BLUE PAU (club member). Carving
mallard duck. Seminar free. Oct. 7, 2017 Jim Jolliffe's shop.
(2) WOOD
CARVING WITH ADINA HUCKINS. Carving a female mask from rough cutout. Cost
$157.00 Sat.-Sun. Jan 27-28, 2018. Jim Jolliffe's shop.

Blue Monarch report by Paul Fulk. 1st phase complete; book
nook installed by Paul Fulk, Jack Kincella, Henry Davis, Loyd Ackerman, Richard
Gulley, Vince Zaccardi and wife. Slide presentation showed install sequence and
is available on Woodworkers site. Click library.
Phase 2 bookshelves and
bench. Volunteers needed call Vince or Jack.
Paul had extra plans from
Ronnie Young tea caddy to who ever wanted.

programs next year. Also if you may be able to get program presenter.

John Hartin reported
Partners for Healing auction raised $20,000. Club donations brought in $2,200.
Melody Young benefit raised about $40,000. no amount available on club
donations.
SHOW AND TELL:
Doyle McConnell showed pepper-mill made of
maple with walnut inlay around, finish lacquer. He also had a baby rattle made
of holly wood.
Noel Johnson brought a bowl made of maple finished with
shellac and a hammered tin lid. Also had a bowl made of hack-berry and used
crayons for finish.
Chuck Taylor showed a guide he made in order to drill
hole in center of bed post he was repairing. He explained how he kept hole
straight by making and using a bushing to guide.
Ken Gould had 2 carved duck
decoys. One was a Victor decoy his dad had made in late 20's or 30's.
The
second was the first decoy he carved 22 years ago. Both were good pieces. Ken
also showed some bolts that he blackened by heating and spraying wit WD40. Use
care when doing poisonous fumes.
John Hartin brought a green turned bowl with
natural edge. A great feature are the four legs that are part of the bowl. To be
finished later.
Gary Bennett showed a birdhouse he made of
oak finish spar varnish. He also had a lidded bowl made of walnut with ring
around center of purple heart. He explained purple heart is hard to work with.
Finish with 3 coats tung oil.
Judy Bennett brought a couple pretty pieces of
intarsia. One was a tree made of poplar and walnut. The other was a calla lilly
made from purple heart and poplar. All finished with deft lacquer satin finish.
Loyd Ackerman had a couple clock forms to show and explain how to fix mistake
using CNC. Corrections need to be precise.
Fred Heltsley showed and explained
that by grinding end of open end wrench makes a great tool for making tendons.
PROGRAM: Alf Sharp – Master Furniture Maker – Historical Perspectives on
Furniture We Make
He covered influences, why, styles, form and function.
Using slides he showed different styles from
past eras to today. He explained
form vs function. One picture showed a piece of furniture about 3,500 years old
which might pass as contemporary today.
