There was no old Business

There was no new Business

The Program for the meeting was a presentation by Tom Cowan on Early American Cabinet and Furniture making.  Tom presented pictures of furniture that he had recreated from the early 1800’s.  He also spoke about a “McAdoo Desk” that was originally created by John Quarles around 1820.  This desk is being made of walnut and has a total of 24 drawers.  There are 5 large drawers in the front and 17 small drawers within the desk top, along with 2 hidden drawers.  All of the drawers have string and fan type inlaying.  The wood used for the inlaying consist of; Chittam, Holly, and Ebony.

To highlight the aspects of inlaying wood and the precise detail used in creating this art form.  Scott Tinker, from Chattanooga, TN, gave a demonstration of the proper technique in sharpening “flat edge tools”.  Scott emphasized that without extreme sharp tool good clean lines and precise work could not be done.
