MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES
for
October 2009
Loyd Ackerman called the meeting to order at 7:00.
Guests: Bob Truesdale, Al
Ford, LaVon Jones, and Jim Crosslin.
No new members.
Anthony commented about the evening program, which
consisted of DeWalt, Delta and Porter Cable and that
some of the innovations they would show are proprietary. Bill Harmon laid out the program and asked
everyone to sign confidentiality statements.

John Brown gave the details on the fall
seminar. Ron Young will show all the
steps on building an 1820 TN table. The
seminar will be at Matt Brother’s shop in Pelham at will start at 8:30 with
coffee and donuts at 8:00. Details and
directions are on our website.
Carver’s
Corner: The Carvers
meet the first Saturday of the month.
They are presently working on Eagle-head canes for our veterans. Contact info for the Carvers is located on
our website.

were then closed since there were none from the floor.

Reece moved to have the nominees elected by acclimation and it was passed
unanimously.

Cole Had slides of a very large fireplace mantel with hidden compartments in
the columns and fancy cabinets he has in process.

Leonard presented his carved cowboy

Gillard had his sailboat and showed how to made spinnakers for it.

Deuermeyer had a maple and a butternut bowl.
Jim
Van Cleave displayed a basswood fan carving with a oil
finish.

Reece showed a set of salad tongs. He
made 20 sets for gifts.
Dick
Wollam had a carving of many dolphins on driftwood.
Tom
Cowan displayed a Philadelphia Windsor chair, which he changed midstream from a
continuous arm Windsor chair.
Bob
Addington displayed an
ambrosia maple bowl from the turning bee and a bowl made from purple heart.
Pat
Kelly showed a TN music box, which is similar to a dulcimer. Geoff Roehm was mentor on this project.
Felix
Rees brought a walnut & cherry turned lamp.
Will
Gaetjens showed a ring toss game.
Milner
Carden brought a plank of lumber which he gve to Tom Cowan.
Lewis
Bryant showed a natural edge bowl and a spalted maple
bowl.
Vince
Zaccardi showed a slide off an inlaid table made in Italy where all the inlaid
pieces were cut by hand. He also made
the comment that all the wood products he saw in craft shops were made out of
olive wood.
Ralph
Hand brought a curved side chest, which was smaller than, the chests he
normally makes.
John
Wendling brought a box of hinges for anyone who wanted them. He has two more boxes of hinges if anyone is
interested.
Program: The
Black & Decker products were set up in six different stations. They displayed the innovations they working
and would give out many door prizes in exchange for our feedback and comments,
both positive and negative. A list of
the door prize winners is in the archive photo section of our website.
