TVWW Minutes - January 19, 1999

Meeting called to order by President Loyd Ackerman.  Welcome guests were John Sumner, Ron Dawbarn and Fred Woebbeking.  New members Frank Cantrell and Dick Dohrmann were introduced.

Treasurer’s report - Henry Davis stated that we have a balance of $280.00 to start the year.

Dues are now due and payable to Henry.  Henry asked the members to support our fund raising activities throughout the year.

Loyd discussed the yearly calendar.  The picnic is scheduled for June 5, 1999.  Falls Mill has canceled artisan’s day for 1999.  The fall seminar will be in October on an unspecified date.  The Christmas potluck will be December 4th and the club exhibit is scheduled in the first quarter of 2000.

John and Irma Troxler & Houston and Lillie Clark have agreed to act as our welcoming committee this year.

A sign-up sheet for mentors, members who are willing to help less experienced woodworkers, was passed around.

Mini workshops - Make a drawer with Jim Van Cleave, make a stool with Tom Cowan and make a jewelry box with Ross Roepke.  Jim had such a good response that he had to schedule three sessions.  Tom had five sign-ups for his 2 or 3-day course.  Ross will schedule his workshop later in the year.  We commend these members for sharing their experience.

Old business - none

New business - Doyle McConnell proposed that the club buy a 2 by 5 foot plastic banner at a cost of $27 to $37 dollars.  H. Davis seconded the motion and it was passed.

Anyone wanting a name tag see Henry.  Cost is about $5.00 including tax.  Ross Roepke reported that the learning center is having an auction.  Any interested members should talk to Ross.

Show and tell - Tom Cowan - a butternut table with a box on top made for his daughter to store her albums.  Henry Davis - a finial turned for a cash customer to replace a broken one.  Betty White wants a spinning wheel made for her son.  Tom Church - a curved spoke shave that his mother sent for Christmas and a bandaged finger to prove that there is a learning curve for the curved spoke shave.  Manuel Brown - bowls #2 and 3, #1 disintegrated, and saucers and a small oak dish.  John Sargent - a bowl turned from willow.  Tom Gillard - some unidentified wood that he thought might be mimosa.  Ross Roepke - a ship’s wheel clock.  Jim Van Cleave - a cherry magazine rack.  James Cook- a carving of an Indian.  Doyle McConnell - a slow speed grinder rated at 1725 RPM.

After a short break, the program was presented.  Tom Cowan demonstrated how to turn a pad foot leg and Phil Bishop demonstrated turned rosettes.  The meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.  Respectfully submitted, John Green, secretary.
